Joe Jaffe has reached out to several leading business communicators to join him for a discussion tomorrow afternoon about the evolution of podcasting. And if you’re looking for a way to spend a thought-provoking hour on the last day of 2008, consider tuning in, via Talkshoe, beginning at 12:30pm Eastern.

Why Jaffe’s talking about podcasting

Simple: Podcasting has been slapped tagged with the dreaded “is [insert media channel/shiny new object/social media tool] dead?” meme over the past few days, with the news that podcasting network Podnango is about to shut it’s (virtual) doors.

The reality, of course, is that podcasting is far from dead. It’s just, you know, not making thousands or millions of independent podcasters wealthy enough to quit their day jobs, as Podshow so tantalizingly promised for the masses a few years ago.

But that doesn’t mean podcasting can’t be effective as a content delivery channel that targets a niche audience, supports larger marketing/communication/branding efforts (including internal communications), or repurposes/repackages mainstream media programming.

Podcasting’s evolution over the last four years is certainly worth thinking and talking about, and that’s why I’ll be listening in to this live, call-in edition with Jaffe and the gang tomorrow afternoon. How about you?
